Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution - so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.
3% of plastic pollution ends up in our oceans, at least 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year and make up for 80% of all marine debris from surface waters to deep-sea sediments. Marine species ingest and get entangled by plastic debris which result in severe injuries and the death of marine life.
But what happens to the other 97% that doesn’t end up in our oceans? It ends up in our soil, groundwater, and even in the air from incineration. Plastic is thrown into land and it makes soil less fertile, plastic slowly releases toxic chemicals into the soil we cultivate, our plants, and the water we consume.
What can we do?
Plastic-free July is a great challenge in which we can all participate and create awareness but things have to be taken to the next step.
By 2050 plastic production is expected to triple! We all have to change for it to be a change, if we change our way of consuming now! We will be in time to change things before it's too late.
